“The Quiet Axis” is a visionary realignment of the Earth and Heavens to create a framework for a new consciousness. To create this realignment, Burgess combined geology, astronomy, technology, history and science in his art and strategically positioned 9 major works and over 40 “preparations” around the world and in outer space to create bridges that establish a quiet and peaceful resonance throughout

“The Quiet Axis”.

Vision Portal Paintings

Lowry Burgess welcomes you to witness the eternal energy that has inspired his artwork for more than half a century in his “Vision Portal” paintings. These paintings are entries into Burgess’ life-work, “The Quiet Axis”

BLUE IRIS

The “Blue Iris” is the first of the “Vision Portal” paintings. The painting is a vision of the radiant life and love Burgess felt and saw around him as he painted in the summer of 1966.

It is meant to give access to that loving radiance.

Studies for the “Blue Iris” Vision Portal

Initial study of “The Iris”, 1965.

Burgess was inspired by the charismatic, glowing radiance of a blue iris from the flower stand outside City Hall in Philadelphia, PA.

Burgess’ study of  the “Stone” and the “Bread”, 1965.

During that same time period, Burgess saw an unusual stone with a glowing halo in the ground while creating a play space for his daughters in the yard of their home on Spring Street.

Burgess’ study of the “Bread”, 1965.

On the glass kitchen table in Burgess’ home was a particular piece of bread that was mesmerizing to him. The study displays cubic, dimensional reflections of the bread in space.

Burgess then combined the loving radiance of the “Blue Iris”, the “Stone” and the “Bread” in the first Vision Portal painting entitled “Blue Iris”.

CROCUS

“Memory Forms of the Unmanifest - Cyberspace- 1988-eternity - The Seventh Aspect of “The Quiet Axis”

The “Crocus” is the second of the “Vision Portal” paintings.  The vision Burgess had was the opening up of the sky itself which was induced by a complex musical chord from Poulenc’s “Gloria Mass”.

This vision/image is meant to have a sense of hopeful promise.

The 12th Mystery of the Filling Out

The “Crocus” represents a set of visions and texts from Burgess’ 7th aspect of his life-long work, “The Quiet Axis” called “Memory Forms of the Unmanifest”.

The 10th Mystery of the Matrix of Form

“Memory Forms of the Unmanifest” is a set of 24 revelations or mysteries that are a topology that is before and after creation.

The 7th Mystery of the Coming Into Existence

All 24 mysteries are radiant within the unseen golden light of the upholding which can be felt by us at any time.

The 2nd Mystery of the Circle

These interconnected mysteries are intended for full interactive telepresence in cyberspace.

WATER LILY

“The Inclined Galactic Light Pond” - 1968-1974 - The First Aspect of  “The Quiet Axis”

The “Water Lily” is the fourth of the “Vision Portal” paintings which depicts a waking vision Burgess had in 1968 during the Vietnam War.

Its meaning is to bring a centering of peacefulness to our world.

The detailed, revised drawing of the positioning of the 12 holographic plates of “The Inclined Galactic Light Pond”.

In 1968, after listening to the Evening News, Burgess felt overwhelming despair over the slaughter taking place in Vietnam. His response to the despair was a vision of a hovering lake of water lilies inclined in the air shimmering in the autumn light. This vision would be the first aspect to reposition the global axis in order to shift the energy to bring a centering of peace to our world.

In 1974, Burgess traveled to The Valley of Kushkak near Bamiyan, Afghanistan to install the first aspect of The Quiet Axis entitled “The Inclined Galactic Light Pond”.

During the next six years, the development of holography made his vision of a hovering lake possible. He then created a visionary lake of holograms called

“The Inclined Galactic Light Pond”.

Burgess placed 12 holographic plates of water lilies and stars in the plane of our galaxy in six pits in the earth. This was along a mile and a half axis, sloping at a 12 degree angle from the floor of the Valley of Kushkak, near Bamiyan, Afghanistan.

ROSE

“The Utopic Vessel” -1974-1978-  The Second Aspect of “The Quiet Axis”

The “Rose” is the fifth of the “Vision Portal” paintings which depicts a vision Burgess had in Bamiyan, Afghanistan in which a rose-like scarlet essence appeared from the other side of the world- Easter Island.

Its meaning is to unfold the ‘potentiality of the world‘.

Easter Island- Burgess assembled and transported “The Utopic Vessel” by boat to be placed on the ocean floor.

In 1978, “The Utopic Vessel” was assembled on Rapa Nui and released to the bottom of the Pacific Ocean opposite through the center of the earth from the “Inclined Galactic Light Pond” in Bamiyan, Afghanistan.

LILY

“The Gate into Aether” - 1978- Infinity- The 7th Aspect of “The Quiet Axis”

The “Lily” is the third of the “Vision Portal” paintings.  It depicts drops of water ascending in slow motion.  Waters from the Earth become purified high above the earth, and re-enter the flow of earthly waters in the Diamond Spring at Valley Forge.

It’s meaning is that of purification and incarnation.

Distillation of “The Gate Into Aether” waters on the Dead Sea. Israel, 1983.

Burgess gathered waters from great rivers, geysers, waterfalls, holy wells, springs, lakes and seas into a halo of all the conditions of water.  Then in 1983, Burgess distilled “The Gate Into Aether” waters on the northern Dead Sea in Israel.

“The Gate Into Aether” brings the memory of the world as water to itself.

The image of the pouring of the purified waters was transformed into sound and broadcast by short wave to the surface of the Moon. The radio waves returned to earth and were captured by a radio telescope then were made into a sonic hologram at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  This hologram is the top plate of “The Boundless Cubic Lunar Aperture”.

FIRE LOTUS

“The Seed of the Infinite Absolute” -1975-2007-  The Sixth Aspect of “The Quiet Axis”

The Fire Lotus is the sixth of the “Vision Portal” paintings which began in 1969 and then worked again from 2006-2012.  The Fire Lotus expresses the intensity of the gravitational uplifting and the downward pulling of the Earth.

Its meaning is that of expansion.

Study/Drawing of “The Seed of the Infinite Absolute”.

“The Seed of the Infinite Absolute” is an art form that is the absolute unit or measure of this cosmos.  It is the center of a nest of infinities.

“The Seed of the Infinite Absolute- Greece- 1975-2007.

“The Seed of the Infinite Absolute” was formed over 35 years.

The shell of the seed is a meld of 12 metals.  It contains the essences of 44 trees, 52 flowers, 36 waters, 32 bloods and 120 hopes.

In July 2007, one seed was placed on top of Mount Taegetos (elevation 8,000 feet) in Greece

The second seed was dropped into the nearby 20,000 foot Calypso Deep.

SUNFLOWER

The “Sunflower” is the seventh of the “Vision Portal” paintings which began in 1969 and then worked again in 2001-2012.  It is a radiant solar portal for everyone’s consciousness to enter into a world of deeply abiding glory.

Its meaning is that of participation in glory.

Study of the “mushroom”, representing the unstoppable force (Burgess’ fascination with the ability of a mushroom to break through concrete) and the seven-sided, crystal structure related to the “Sunflower” Vision Portal.

Text from the study:

“The heptagonal mirror is very thick to the outer edges perhaps 14 inches stepped into the middle 4 inches thick. The facets angled at 60 degrees to conduct an interior light.

The mirror is clear, not really a mirror, but a gigantic heptagonal crystal.

The gigantic, heptagonal crystal in the “Sunflower” Vision Portal was first discussed in this drawing/study.

FLOWER OF FLOWERS

The “Flower of Flowers” is the eighth of the “Vision Portal” paintings which began in 1980 and then worked again in 2006.  It is the portal of the deep meanings of the Moon shared by all peoples of the World.  It is the unity of all the seven previous “Vision Portals”.

Its meaning is to bring the totality of life into its flowering fruition.

“The Boundless Cubic Lunar Aperture” -1976-1989-  The Second Aspect of “The Quiet Axis”

“The Boundless Cubic Lunar Aperture” is the journey of the Utopic Vessel backward in time and space, through the earth into outer space.

The hypercube is meant to be a source of reassurance and a total release and freedom of the everything/nothing.

The center of “The Boundless Cubic Lunar Aperture” is a vacuum chamber surrounded by holograms of nothing.

This cube vacuum chamber floats in the distilled waters of the world (the water of waters) inside a larger cube whose surface displays the above holographic text.

Put on the burden and pain unmeshed

Of shadowed waters none can retrieve

A blackness, the utmost symmetry, as clotted blood.

It moves not, nor is, nor’s not.

O before, utterly before, yet after, after all forsakenness; Darkness beyond all darkness, even there,

Slightly lifting, the boundless Cube.

“The Boundless Cubic Lunar Aperture” was lifted into zero gravity in outer space by NASA’s Space Shuttle Discovery in March of 1989.

Burgess retrieved “The Boundless Cubic Lunar Aperture” after orbiting earth 93 times aboard Space Shuttle Discovery, making a 3 million mile wrapping around the earth.

After returning from space, the cube hovers in its own magnetic field in a 400 million year old rock outcrop, beside Sandy Pond, in Lincoln, Massachusetts.

Moon Arts Group - MoonArk - 2018 Museum on the Moon

Led by Lowry Burgess, a team of international artists, scientists, designers and engineers have developed a deep human gift and gesture for the Moon called the MoonArk.

The idea behind the MoonArk is to create a museum of “where we are, in this very moment”; therefore, all original works have been made for this museum.

The MoonArk is a pentagonal structure made of four chambers and weighs no more than six  ounces– an extreme technical feat. A twin of these chambers will also be constructed to be exhibited on Earth.

The concept for the chambers describes a progression of the journey of leaving home, journeying toward a goal, achieving the goal, and then journeying onward rather than returning home.

The sculpture will be shuttled to the moon in 2018 and exist there for potentially billions of years.

The MoonArk, museum on the moon, contains elements representing all the Arts and Humanities (art, architecture, design, music, drama, ballet, and poetry) –all using the most advanced sciences, engineering, technologies, and material science–from the nano- and micro- scales, to the infinite scales including ongoing deep space radio-wave transmissions.
