The Annunciation II: VICTEORY (sic) 2006
2:35 DVD (loop) color/sound
The Annunciation II: VICTEORY (sic) presents an unseeing figure wearing a helmet that obstructs his vision without popular support. A nude “knight” crawls across a vast bed of sand imprinted with Islamic patterns, inscribing the word “V-I-C-T-E-O-R-Y” (sic) with a heavy sword while uttering each letter, error and all. His sword is a replica of the one used by Richard the Lionheart during the Third Crusade in which he massacred thousands of Muslim prisoners. His helmet, with its eagle-beak visor, sheds its plume during his trek.
