The Welcome to the C District walking tour/performance grew out of extensive research instigated by a collective called the Liberty Avenue Project.

This collective formed in August of 2003 in response to the buy-out of Condom Nation, a novelty sex toy shop formerly located on Liberty Avenue, an area of downtown Pittsburgh undergoing an extensive and well-funded, arts-based gentrification.
