Monument to 465 Americans: A Typical Week of Deaths by Gunfire in the United States

1993. terra cotta with names stamped on back of hand, 78" x 44" x 25"

This is a different type of war memorial: it speaks of our civil wars. It is a tribute to those people who die in any given week from gun fire in the United States. This monument displays the names of real people, so that we can understand and visually experience the poignancy of the numbers. It was sited at the entrance to Hamot Medical Center, Erie PA as part of the Erie Art Museum's Artscape Exhibition.
